DEMOCRAT CANDIDATES WRONG FOR AMERICA

RALEIGH—On the day after the Iowa Caucuses, Democrats proved once more their agenda is the wrong one to lead America.  Listen to them in their own words.  On the issue of taxes and government spending, Senator Clinton famously said, “I have a million ideas. The country can’t afford them all.”  She’s proposed more than $770 billion in new government spending, and how does she plan to pay for it all?  She’s told us.  She says she’s “going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.” She insists that “something has to be taken away from some people.” She thinks that “fairness doesn’t just happen.  It requires the right government policies.”

Sounds bad, but is it any worse than the other Democrats?  Senator Obama has raced right along with Senator Clinton in terms of offering government expansion after government expansion.  And like her, he thinks hard-working American taxpayers should pay for it: “People didn’t need [the tax cuts], and they weren’t even asking for them, and that’s why they need to be less, so that we can pay for universal health care and other initiatives.”  Senator Edwards, the millionaire populist, is even worse.  He says that going back to Clinton-era tax levels would only be a “starting place,” and suggested that an “excess-profits, excess-income tax” was “worthy of consideration.”

Chairman Linda Daves, North Carolina Republican Party, made the following statement:

“The Democrats simply have the wrong vision for our future.  Whoever ends up being the Democrat nominee, the result will be the same.  We will hear more plans of higher taxes, expanded government, less choice when it comes to making health care decisions, and retreat from the War on Terror.  They believe that they know how to spend your money better than you do, that bureaucrats should be making decisions about your health care, and that retreating from the terrorists will somehow make us safer.  That’s not a vision – it’s a catastrophe.  In the meantime, the Republicans are talking about their positive plans to keep our taxes low, make health care more affordable, portable, and flexible, and – most importantly – how to keep our nation safe and secure.  The contrast between the two parties in this race is stark and the American people will support the party that stands by hardworking taxpayers and our troops.  In the end, the American people deserve a leader with a strong, positive vision for our future, and that leader will be a Republican.”
