Democrat Candidates United in Support of Tax Increases
RALEIGH—On the eve of North Carolina’s primary, Chairman Linda Daves, North Carolina Republican Party made the following statement:
“Democrats have crisscrossed the state over the course of the last two weeks trying to point out their differences ahead of tomorrow’s primary. However, there is one issue on which they stand united: higher taxes. Barack Obama has proposed hundreds of billions of dollars in new spending and promised to pay for it with massive tax increases. Obama has even stood against temporary relief on gas taxes because he can’t stand the thought of even one dollar going back into the pockets of hardworking North Carolina taxpayers. Hillary Clinton has similarly promised tax increases to pay for new government entitlements for healthcare that will take the decisions out of the hands of North Carolina families and give them to bureaucrats in Washington.
Not to be outdone, Beverly Perdue and Richard Moore have proposed spending increases in state government as well. How can we be surprised? Both Perdue and Moore have served in the Democrat leadership in Raleigh that has made us the highest taxed state in the Southeast and presided over a state budget that has nearly doubled over the last seven years. Now they have promised even more government spending and have offered no plan to pay for it. We have seen this before from Democrats in our state and we know that taxpayers always get stuck footing the bill. All four Democrats seeking the highest offices on the ballot tomorrow offer the same wrongheaded policy of raising taxes during strenuous economic times. Democrats will select their nominees in North Carolina tomorrow but no matter which candidate wins, hardworking North Carolina families lose.”
