JIM BLACK’S DOWNFALL HIGHLIGHTS NEED
FOR FURTHER ETHICS REFORM

Democrat Leadership Should Work With Republicans to Pass Meaningful Reform

RALEIGH—Chairman Linda Daves, North Carolina Republican Party made the following statement:

“With the case against Jim Black coming to a close and justice being served, it is time to move on from this dark period in the history of North Carolina.  Now is the time for real ethics and lobbying reform in Raleigh to make certain the blight Jim Black and his cronies have left on our state government will never again be repeated.  I applaud Republican leaders in the House and Senate who have taken the lead on proposing ethics reform and now I call on Speaker Hackney, Senator Basnight, and the Democrat leadership to work with Republicans to see that this reform is passed.  The citizens of North Carolina deserve legislators who adhere to the highest ethical standards and are entitled to open and honest government.  We will accept nothing less.  If we are to restore the public’s faith in our governing institutions, Republicans and Democrats must come together to end the corruption that erodes confidence in the General Assembly.  The time for rhetoric has passed.  The time for action is now.”
